Griffins Bust Out At Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, PA. -- Nine different players scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy's 21-7 win at Bryn Athyn Wednesday afternoon.

The Griffins scored eight times in the third quarter to help open up a sizable advantage.

Jacob Dzierzgowski tied a single-game program record with eight points on seven goals and an assist. Ryan Simpson and Nick Freda each had three scores while Dan Decker and Zach Groses each netted a pair. Joseph Pandolfi, Kohler Setley, Luke Xanthopoulos, and Ryan Gartenmayer also scored for GMercyU to help the team stay unbeaten.

Goalie Aubron Swartley turned in 14 saves for his third win on the year. Bryn Athyn keepers Brad DePasquale and Tristan Banks combined to make nine stops.

Jimmy Koniecki led Bryn Athyn with four goals. Cameron Leech dished out six assists for BAC.

A man-up score from Simpson and a late tally from Gartenmayer gave Gwynedd a 3-2 edge after the first quarter. The defense then limited the Lions to just one goal in the second as the Griffins put in five in the frame, including another man-up goal from Pandolfi.

In that eight-goal third quarter, Gwynedd put together a string of seven-straight over a 10 minute span to up their lead to double digits.

Nick Heiler won 16-of-23 faceoffs, a career-high, while pulling in a team-best eight groundballs. Lucas Gray grabbed a personal-best five.

The Griffins will now head west, as in California, next week to play in two games out on the West Coast. First up is a matchup at Whittier College on Tuesday, March 5th followed by a neutral site clash with Emerson also held at Whittier on Thursday, the 7th.
