UNION, N.J. -- A late comeback bid came up a bit short as Gwynedd Mercy fell to Kean, 5-3, on Saturday.
After the Cougars took a 4-1 lead heading into the eighth, Gwynedd plated a run on a
Sachael Sciarretta sac fly to score
Billy Collins. Kean crossed a run in the bottom half, setting up a final inning in which GMercyU was able to load the bases with two outs. However, Kean's Frank Dente was able to end it with a grounder to first.
Sciaretta got Gwynedd on the board in their first at-bat scoring on a
Ryan Keen bloop a double down the left field line with two outs. The Cougars tied things up in their half of the third as Derek Walker led off the frame with a double. He moved to third on a sacrifice and John Carello drove him in with a double of his own.
Kean used a three-run sixth inning to take the lead for good, using three doubles and two singles. Frank LoGiudice, Steve Santigate and Nick Polizzano all collected doubles in the frame.
The team was limited to three hits on the day, but reached base via six walks and three hit batsmen.
Bryan Kaelin suffered the loss in relief, entering in the fourth for starter
Nick DeRitis.
The team is right back at it tomorrow when they play Brockport at Kean's Baseball Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
