READING, PA. – Gwynedd Mercy opened their 2019-20 season with a 69-64 win at Alvernia Friday night behind a game-high 22 points from
Rich Dunham and 16 from
Jeff Seigafuse.
The Griffins shot 52% in the second half to help overcome a five-point deficit at the half. Seigafuse hit a three to kick start a big 11-2 run late in the second half to give Gwynedd the lead for good. The senior netted 14 of those 16 points in the second stanza while the defense limited Alvernia to 38% after the half.
Malik Green led the Golden Wolves with 20 points with teammate Justin Thomas added 13. Alvernia shot 50%in the first half go up by as much as 13 points. GMercyU whittled the lead down to five at the break.
Dunham and Seigafuse combined to hit five of the team's six three-pointers. On the glass,
Austin Harriott pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
The team takes on Centenary on Tuesday in the home opener. Game time at The Griffin Complex is set for 7 p.m.
