Griffins Can't Dethrone King's

WILKES-BARRE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell 107-75 at King's on Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup.

Rookie Tamia Wessels led the Griffins with 14 points while Marissa Sandone added a career-high 12. Haley Crossley was a rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double as the freshman totaled 13 points and nine boards. Chyanne Fine pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds while Cayla Sharkey recorded four blocks to go along with her eight points and nine caroms.

For the Monarchs, Samantha Rajza had quite the night, registering a triple-double (31 points/14 rebounds/10 assists) as she hit six of the team's eight three pointers.

Three-pointers from Rajza bookended a 12-0 run early in the first to erase an early 4-0 Gwynedd lead. King's then got the lead to double figures to end the first quarter. The Monarchs opened the second stanza on a 12-2 run to keep the Griffins out of striking distance.

GMercyU will turn its attention to this weekend as they host the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament starting on Friday. The Griffins battle Pitt-Bradford at 6 p.m. followed by Ursinus and Scranton at 8 p.m.
