GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy looks to get back the championship game as they begin play on Saturday against Neumann in the first round of the 2019 Atlantic East Conference Field Hockey Tournament.
The third-seeded Griffins welcome the sixth-seeded Knights here at the GM Athletic Complex starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The two teams met here in the regular season just a week ago, with GMercyU posting a 4-2 victory.
Allison Campbell scored twice, including the eventual game winner with less than four minutes remaining in regulation.
Gwynedd enters with a 3-2 record in AEC play to earn the third seed while Neumann was on the wrong end of a three-way tie with Immaculata and Cabrini (all with 1-4 records) in notching the sixth seed.
Campbell leads the squad with 10 goals and is ranked fourth in the conference in that category. Teammate
Michaela Swenk as eight assists on the year that puts her in second in the AEC. Goalie
Abi Kennedy owns an 1.83 goals against average with a pair of shutouts.
Neumann's Bri Lagoteria has a team-leading 21 points on eight goals and five assists. Sam Picker (6G/4A), Erica D'Mello (4G/7A), and Rachel Koerner (5G/5A) also have double-digit point totals. Keeper Lizzie Yu leads the AEC in saves (156) and saves per game (10.56 spg).
The #4 Cavaliers will host the #5 Mighty Macs in Saturday's other opening round matchup. #1 Marywood and #2 Wesley have earned byes to the semifinals which takes place on Wednesday, November 6th. The Atlantic East Championship will happen on Saturday, November 9th at the lowest remaining seed.
