GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Field Hockey team secured a home playoff game with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Atlantic East Conference foe Neumann University.
Allison Campbell scored a pair of goals along with the game winner with just under four minutes remaining in the game.
Erika Cimino and
Kathryn Lehman also added goals as well while
Ryan Murray and
Carlisle Dixon each added helpers.
The Griffins struck early in the first quarter when Campbell knocked in a rebound off of a
Michaela Swenk blast that knocked off the post.Â
GMercyU held the lead until the third quarter when Tiffany Flowers found the ball on her stick standing on the corner of the cage to tie the game at 1-1. Still tied heading into the fourth frame. Cimino would go top shelf when she connected on a corner pass from Murray. Neumann answered again when Flowers added her second goal of the game on a rebound.Â
Campbell sealed the deal in the later moments of the final frame when her redirection off of a deflection found the back of the cage. Lehman would then add the insurance with her first of the season with just under two minutes to go.
For the game the Griffins outshot the Knights, 24-4, and held a 17-4 corner advantage.
Lizzie Yu recorded 14 saves while Flowers added a defensive save.
Abi Kennedy made one stop for the home team.
With the win the Griffins earn a home playoff game next Saturday November 2nd, they will travel to Cabrini on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to close out the regular season.Â
