GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered their second Atlantic East Conference defeat as Marymount gave the Griffins a 74-61 setback Wednesday evening here at The Griffin Complex.
Jeff Seigafuse led GMercyU with 13 points while he and
Clayton Wolfe each added six rebounds.
Jordan Perkins kicked in 11 points off the bench but the Griffins could not overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half.
After some early back-and-forth, the Saints used a 9-0 run to open up a 31-19 lead with 3:20 in the first. A big three right before the buzzer from
Jaylen Henry put the wraps on the Griffins' 10-1 scoring stretch to close out the half and cut the score to 32-29.
Two free throws from Steve Etienne gave the Saints a 52-42 edge at the 12:34 mark. Seigafuse injected some life with his steal and ensuing bucket underneath for a three-point play to get the Griffin faithful to their feet. However, Marymount answered almost every Gwynedd scoring run with one of their own, which helped them to a 72-54 lead with just under three minutes to play.
Etienne finished with a game-high 23 points for the Saints. Ladarius McCord and Ryan Albert contributed 13 and 11 respectively. Both teams shot 50% from the field and over 50% in the second half.
The Griffins battle Neumann on Saturday at home in a conference matchup in a 3 p.m. start.
