NEW YORK -- Both Gwynedd Mercy and John Jay each scored twice in the game's first 25 minutes, but neither team found the back of the net the rest of the way as the two squads battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday afternoon.
Victoria Braeunle and
Amanda Credidio scored for the Griffins (0-3-1), who also got 10 big saves from goalie
Kailey Hopkins.
The Bloodhounds struck first, making 1-0 1:57 into the game on a goal from Gianna Russo. Eight minutes would go by before Braeunle notched her first of the season, off an
assist from
Lauren Melino.
Katie Healy put John Jay back (1-1-1) ahead with her goal in the 17th minute before rookie
Amanda Credidio notched her first collegiate tally at the 25:02 mark with a helper from
Erin Reitmeyer.
Hopkins recorded eight of her 10 stops in regulation. John Jay goalie Erika Estro totaled five stops on the day.
Gwynedd Mercy will have their home opener on Tuesday when they welcome Penn State-Abington in a 6 p.m. start.
