MADISON, N.J. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Field Hockey Team suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-0 at FDU-Madison Saturday morning.
The Griffins fell behind early, as the Devils went up 1-0 just 40 seconds into the contest. FDU's Chrissy Penney was able beat GMercyU keeper
Abi Kennedy for the game's first goal.
With under eight minutes in the half, FDU-Florham converted on a penalty stroke from Brooke Sherwin. Gwynedd was outshot in the first 35 minutes, 7-2.
In the second half, the Griffins produced six penalty corners and looked to cut into the lead, but a defensive save off a shot from
Kaitlyn Lutz midway in the stanza kept it a 2-0 goal contest.
Kelly O'Neill added a late tally for the Devils (3-1), to account for the goal scoring.
Kennedy ended the day with four stops in net. FDU's Samantha Rubin totaled three. The team put together five shots in the second half, but was ultimately outshot, 10-7, for the game.
On Tuesday, September 11th, the team heads to Widener in a 7 p.m. start.
