GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy welcomed King's in their home opener on Wednesday evening and turned in an impressive 3-0 win over the Monarchs.
Julia McKenzie scored twice, while
Alyssa Tomsic also tallied in the first half as GMercyU outshot King's , 23-1.
Tomsic started off the scoring right away with a goal off her own rebound just 2:27 into the contest. The Griffins kept the pressure on the Monarchs shooting 12 more times in the first half resulting in two more goals. Freshman
Julia McKenzie got her first collegiate goal off
Allison Campbell's first collegiate assist with 25 minutes left in the first half. The freshman quickly scored again four minutes later to take an insurmountable advantage into the half.Â
Goalies
Abi Kennedy and
Sarah Crane combined to pitch the shutout, as each played a half. Crane made a fantastic save on a penalty corner in the second half to help keep Kings's off the board. Brianne Maluda and Dervla Mcerlean totaled a combined 11 saves throughout the game for the Monarchs (0-2).
Gwynedd Mercy (2-0) will be back in action when they travel to FDU-Florham this Saturday in an 11 a.m. start.
