GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- After a scoreless first half, Salisbury netted two goals in the second to hand Gwynedd Mercy a 2-0 defeat Saturday afternoon.
The seventh-ranked (NFCHA) Sea Gulls scored on penalty corners in the 45th and 58th minutes respectively. This was the first meeting between the two schools.
The Griffins were able to control the first half defensively, holding Salisbury without an official shot and two penalty corners. GMercyU put together three corners and fired off five shots, including two in the final minute of the stanza, but could not get the game's first tally.
Consecutive corners early in the second helped the Sea Gulls take a 1-0 lead. Tara Daddio was able to beat goalie
Sarah Crane at the 25:45 mark. Salisbury recorded all seven of their corners in the second half and would take a 2-0 lead with 12:18 left on a goal from Jenna Partilla.
Crane recorded four saves on the day while Salisbury keeper Dom Farrace made five. Both teams had seven shots apiece on the day.
Gwynedd Mercy is right back at it on Tuesday when they welcome DeSales in a 6 p.m. pushback.
During halftime, Griffin alumni Ashlee Lippincott and Briane Kline were on hand to talk about their work in Pieces Left Behind, a non-profit organization that provides for undeserved populations around the world with their vision of a world where people can unite despite their sexual preference, race, and/or religion to help others in need.
