GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was handed a 4-1 setback to ninth-ranked (NFHCA) Montclair State on Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy outshot Montclair 10-8, including eight in the second half, and held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners, but the Red Hawks came out on top.
The Red Hawks potted the first two scores of the game just over four minutes apart. The first shot of the game was also the first goal as Montclair's Kelly Watson found the back of the cage. Kaitlyn Prestinari dished it to Victoria Rossi to follow up Watson's goal for a 2-0 lead.
The Griffins (4-3) got on the board in the 29th minute of the first half when
Shannon Carroll fed it to
Kathryn Lehman for the sophomore's second goal of the season. Montclair answered just over a minute later when Prestinari made it 3-1, where it stood until the half.
Kailey Dalguauer added the final score of the day in the 42nd minute.
The goalie tandem of
Abi Kennedy and
Sarah Crane ended the day with two saves total. The same went for Nicole Andriani and Brenna Miller for MSU (8-1).
The Griffins return to the field on Wednesday against Stockton.
