GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy gave head coach
Neil Johnson his 100th coaching victory with their 1-0 win over Bryn Athyn Wednesday evening.
Now in his 12th season, Johnson has a record of 100-96-25 with eight seasons of 10 or more victories. He is the all-time leader in coaching wins in program history.
For the game, the lone goal of the contest came in the 29th minute when
Victoria Braeunle scored her second on the season. A through pass to the front was deflected off a Bryn Athyn defender, where Braeunle gathered and raced into the box. Her shot beat goalie Allie Warren on the short side for the 1-0 lead.
The Griffins (1-4-2), who had eight shots in each half, pressed in the second stanza to try and add some insurance, but Warren made seven of her 10 stops over the final 45 minutes kept it a one-goal contest.
GMercyU keeper
Kailey Hopkins etched five saves on the docket for her second shutout of the season and 19th in her career.
The team returns to action on Saturday when they host Lycoming in a 1 p.m. start.
