TOWSON, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy's season opener was thwarted by Goucher as the Gophers recorded a 3-0 win Friday night after a weather delay.
The game was stopped after halftime due to inclement weather and resumed almost two hours after the stoppage.
This was the fourth meeting between the two teams all time and the first since the 2003 season with the Griffins (0-1) suffering their first defeat to Goucher.
The Gophers built a 2-0 lead before the break, scoring in the 15th minute and 33rd minute. Christine Yarrish netted the game's first goal before assisting on the second.

Kailey Hopkins faced 20 shots on the night, making a total of nine saves. Erica Bulzomi notched three stops for Goucher (1-0).
The team resumes action on Sunday when they head to Allentown, Pa. to square off with Muhlenberg in a 2 p.m. start.
