DALLAS, PA. – Gwynedd Mercy got their 2018 season off to a great start with a 2-1 road win at Misericordia on Friday.
First-half goals from
Maggie Walsh and rookie
Lauren Jani helped stake the Griffins (1-0) to an early lead they would not relinquish.
In the tenth minute, Gwynedd used their first penalty corner of the day to get on the board. Walsh netted the game's first tally with an assist from
Shannon Carroll. For Carroll, the assist gives her 25 in her career, moving her into fifth place all time. Jani made it 2-0 less than four minutes later as she put in her first collegiate goal off a helper from
Julia McKenzie.
The Cougars (0-1) would get one back late in the first half as Anna Effinger knocked in a rebound to cut it to a one-goal game.
Goalie
Abi Kennedy made all of her three saves in the second half to help preserve the win. Misericordia's Katelyn Campbell recorded five stops.
Gwynedd Mercy returns home as they'll host King's on Wednesday, September 5th in their home opener starting at 6 p.m.
