LAPLUME, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy extended their win streak to seven games with a CSAC sweep at Keystone on Sunday.
Behind three hits from
Amanda Clark and five strikeouts in a complete game win from
Melissa Hess, the Griffins took game one, 6-4.
Hess was just as impressive in game two, fanning six while scattering two runs on six hits with
Becki Christoffers and
Erin Hallahan each knocking two runs to win the nightcap, 7-2.
Game 1
Gwynedd built a 3-0 lead on an RBI single from
Lauren Waller in the first and a home run from Clark in the third before the Giants got on the board in the fourth. A big pinch hit two-run double from
Alex Kinal in the sixth upped the lead to 5-1.
Hallahan added an RBI single in the seventh to score
Tori Sherwood for a 6-2 edge. Keystone plated two runs in their final at bat on two hits and two errors, but Hess ended game one with her fifth strikeout.
Clark added a double for Gwynedd. Hallahan and Waller collected two hits apiece.
Game 2
GMercyU was limited to three hits in the first four innings before a big six-run fifth helped turn the tide for good. Christoffers' two-run single and Sherwood's RBI double keyed the outburst.
It was more than enough for Hess, who did not allow a baserunner over the final two innings.
Sherwood finished game two going, 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. She also threw out a runner at the plate trying to score from second base in the second inning.
Gwynedd Mercy (14-3, 5-0 CSAC) is off to their best start in program history. The Griffins will look to extend their unbeaten streak on Tuesday when they play at Rosemont.
