Griffins Record First Shutout Win In Program History

All takes place on Senior Night

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy recorded their first shutout victory in program history with their 15-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference win over Rosemont Wednesday evening on Senior Night.

The Griffins also wrap up the regular season with a record of 9-3 and 6-1 in CSAC play to earn the #2 playoff seed. They will host #3 Marywood here on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a semifinal matchup in the conference tournament.

Prior to the game, the coaching staff and players took a moment to recognize the team's four seniors and their families: Sean Miller, Dominic Moscariello, Joe Simpson, and Nick Squicciarini.

Offensively, Ryan Simpson and Jordan Dzierzgowski paced GMercyU with four goals apiece. Jacob Snavely and Kohler Setley each added a pair with Joe Simpson, Daniel Decker, and Derek Alcavage adding tallies. Dzierzgowski added two assists, to finish the night with a career-high six points. It was also a career night for Setley, who registered a personal-best five points.

On the defensive side, goalie Chris Burns along with Miller, Shawn Ryan, and Anthony Pozsonyi helped limit the Ravens to 13 shots on the night. Burns recorded four saves in net. The unit was part of seven caused turnovers and 31 groundballs.

Joey Giordano won 16-of-18 faceoffs in the 'X' and totaled a career-high 13 groundballs, which is fourth most in single-game history.

Gwynedd had 19 shots in the first quarter, rattling off four goals in the period. Scores from Ryan Simpson, Dzierzgowski and a late tally from Setley upped the score to a 7-0 advantage at the half.

In total, the team was 17-of-19 on faceoffs and 11-of-12 on clears on the night.

Rosemont goalie Mark Porter was kept busy, making 17 stops for the Ravens, who close out their season with a record of 1-14 and 1-6 in league games.
