PURCHASE, N.Y. --
Victoria Braeunle broke the Griffin single-season scoring record as the rookie totaled seven goals and two assists to help Gwynedd Mercy to a 21-13 win at Purchase Tuesday evening in the regular-season finale for GMercyU.
Now at 98 points on the season, she surpassed the old mark of 95 set in 2009 by Colleen Dellostretto. Braeunle also owns the single-season assist mark with 32 and still counting. Meanwhile her 66 goals on the season are third-most and are two behind second.
For the game, the Griffins led 16-13 with less than seven minutes to play, but the team outscored the Panthers, 5-0, the rest of the way to pick up the non-conference win.
Samantha Brown added six goals with
Jill Kane and
Alyssa Tomsic each adding three as the team hit the 20-goal mark for the fourth time this season.
Eight different players recorded at least one caused turnover as the team totaled 11 on the evening. Tomsic, Brown, and
Megan Crammer each had two.
Camryn Sheahan totaled a season-high five groundballs with Braeunle tops in draws with a game-high nine.
After Purchase, out of the Skyline Conference, cut it 9-8 late in the first, Brown put in two more before the half to put Gwynedd up by three at the break. The Griffins had their largest lead in the second at 14-9, but saw the Panthers net three-straight over a nine-minute span.
Kelly Turtell, who led Purchase with seven goals, netted her final score of the night to make 16-13 with 6:57 to go. Gwynedd did not allow another goal the rest of the way to help ice the win.
Goalie
Nicole Wood made six stops in net. Allyson Wong totaled 16 for the Panthers (7-5).
Gwynedd Mercy (6-10) now turns its attention to the CSAC Tournament which gets underway this Saturday. The sixth-seeded Griffins travel to third-seeded Immaculata for a first-round matchup starting at 4 p.m.
