Griffins Bow Out Of CSAC Playoffs

IMMACULATA, PA. -- Victoria Braeunle notched a program record but the Griffins were knocked out of the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament with a 20-11 defeat at Immaculata in a first-round game on Saturday.

Braeunle, who earlier this season became the single-season point leader, became the first player in program history to reach 100 points in a season. The freshman totaled three goals and an assist to give her 102 points on the year.

Lauren Mitros added a two scores and a helper while Alyssa Tomsic added a pair of goals.

The sixth-seeded Griffins fell behind, 3-1, early in the game, but stormed back with three of their own to go ahead, 4-3, with 9:12 elapsed in the first. GMercyU was held scoreless over a 10-minute span that saw the Mighty Macs go ahead, 9-4. Jill Kane ended the drought with her goal from Mitros at the 9:32 mark, but it would be the final goal until a late score from Braeunle made it a 14-6 score at the half.

For Immaculata, the #3 seed, Layne Kennedy led IU (14-3) with five goals and an assist. Teammate Nicole Dominick added six assists with Maura Murray scoring four times.

Goalie Nicole Wood faced 43 shots and recorded 10 saves on the day. IU's Lex Goerlach recorded nine.

The game marks the end of the road for the team's two seniors, Carrie Kilgore and Mitros. In her three seasons as a Griffin, Kilgore totaled 81 points on 61 goals and 20 assists in 36 games. This year, she totaled a career-best 43 points on 29 goals and 14 helpers. She tied a personal-best with seven points at Wesley. For Mitros, she etches her name in the Griffin record books in a few categories. Mitros is the all-time leader in draw controls (278) while her 165 points rank her seventh in 62 career games. She is fifth all-time in goals (148), seventh in assists (45), and tenth in caused turnovers (65). She also holds the single-season mark in draw controls with 157 claimed this year, which currently leads the CSAC.

Gwynedd Mercy finishes the 2018 season with a final mark of 6-11.
