Griffins Honor Seniors, Take Two From Centenary

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy celebrated Senior Day with two wins over Centenary in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Doubleheader. The Griffins posted an 8-0 win in game one then followed that up with an 8-1 win in game two. The two wins stretch their win streak to six games.

Prior to game one, the team and coaching staff honored its three seniors: Jess Behr, Alyssa Morales, and Tara Matteo.

Game one
Pitcher Melissa Hess threw a two hitter, along with four strikeouts and just one walk and Lauren Waller had a double and triple with three RBIs. The team totaled 13 hits, eight of which went for extra bases; five doubles and three triples. Behr also added a double and a triple.

After two-spot in the first, GMercyU added more in the second. Back-to-back hits to put two on in the second for Matteo, who sent a sharp liner off the tip of the first baseman and down the line in right to score two more. She later came home to score on a grounder from Morales.

Waller's two-run double in the fourth padded the lead to 7-0. Behr would end it in the sixth as her two-bagger plated Becki Christoffers to induce the run rule.

Game two
The bats were still active in game two as Behr, Waller, and Amanda Clark all had three hits apiece.

In the first with Christoffers at first, Behr sent a sharp grounder up the middle which got through the centerfielder and all the way to the fence. The error allowed Behr to score for a 2-0 lead.

It was a case of déjà vu in the next inning, as Behr came to the plate this time with two on and two outs. This time, she sent a hard liner to right which got through the right fielder which allowed all three to score for a 5-0 advantage.

It was more than enough for Morales, who worked all seven innings, scattering one run on four hits with four K's and two walks.

The team travels to Clarks Summit tomorrow for a makeup DH.
