GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy completed their CSAC DH sweep of Cedar Crest, taking game 2, 7-3, as the contest was resumed after a rainout back on March 30th.
Becki Christoffers was 2-for-2 with two run, two stolen bases and an RBI. Her two runs scored gave her 101 for her career, making her the fourth player in program history to eclipse the century mark.
Amanda Clark also added a pair of hits.
With the Griffins leading 2-0 after two innings before the delay, today's action got started in the top of the third as GMercyU picked up where they left off. Back-to-back singles from Clark and
Lauren Waller put two on with no one out. An errant throw from the catcher to try and pickoff Waller at first sailed down the right field line allowing Clark to score and move Waller to third. A pair of RBI groundouts from
Ciara Diehl and
Erin Hallahan upped the lead to 5-0.
The Falcons looked to get something going in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but starter
Melissa Hess got out of the spot with a grounder to Waller at second. Cedar Crest plated two runs in the sixth on a Breanna Young double to cut the lead down to 5-3.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Griffins got two runs back on just one hit, two hit by pitches. Christoffers knocked in pinch runner
Brianna Polly to make it 6-3. Later, after Christoffers made it third, she beat a throw home from second to pad the lead to four runs.
Hess settled in and spun a 1-2-3 seventh to lock up the win.
The team will now travel to Immaculata on Friday for two with first pitch at 3 p.m.
