IMMACULATA, PA. -- Despite seven goals from
Victoria Braeunle, Gwynedd Mercy was outscored by eight goals in the second half in falling at Immaculata, 24-14 Tuesday evening in CSAC action.
The freshman's seven tallies were in a tie for third most in a game in the all-time program record books and a season high. Teammate
Alyssa Tomsic added three scores but the Griffins, who only trailed 9-7 at the half, saw the deficit grow early in the second to which they were not able to overcome.
With Notre Dame's loss to Neumann also on Tuesday, Gwynedd Mercy was able to clinch a postseason berth in the CSAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
Layne Kennedy led IU (10-3, 5-2 CSAC) and all scorers with 10 points on eight goals and an assist.
Lauren Mitros recorded 11 draws while Braeunle chipped in seven draws, a team-high five groundballs, and a pair of caused turnovers.
Carrie Kilgore (two goals),
Samantha Brown, and
Jill Kane also scored for the Griffins (5-9, 3-4 CSAC).
Gwynedd Mercy plays at Keystone on Saturday in the final conference game of the season. The winner claims the #5 playoff seed with the loser taking the #6 and final seed.
