GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins had their win streak snapped in game on but rallied to take game two as Gwynedd Mercy battled Neumann to a Colonial States Athletic Conference Doubleheader split on Saturday. The Knights got ahead early to go on for an 18-4 win in game one. Game two saw GmercyU get a four-spot in the fifth to come back for a 6-4 victory in the game two.
Game one
Neumann totaled 18 hits and took advantage of six Griffin errors in the win. Leading 4-2 after two innings, the Knights plated 12 in the third to open up a sizable advantage. The game was played until the fifth.
Jess Behr and
Alyssa Morales each went 2-for-3 in the first game. Morales doubled home
Becki Christoffers in the first while hit a two-run home run in the fifth to highlight Gwynedd. For Behr, it was her 20th career dinger, adding to her program leading total.
Jackie Schneider was 3-for-4 with four RBI's and three runs for the Knights.
Game two
Morales helped earn the split using her arm and her bat in the 6-4 win, throwing a complete game, scattering three earned runs on seven hits while going 2-for-3 with a pair of two-run singles. Christoffers doubled and scored twice.
After a run in the first, Schneider struck again for Neumann, hitting a two-run home run in the third to put Gwynedd in a 3-0 hole. The Griffins answered in the bottom half scoring two on Morales single to score
Alex Kinal and Christoffers.
The Knights crossed an unearned run in the fifth before Gwynedd took the lead for good in their next at-bat. With one out and runners on second and third, Morales delivered again with a single to right to tie it at 4-4.
Tara Matteo came on to pinch run for Morales and would later score from second on an error at second.
Lauren Waller capped the scoring as she knocked in Behr beating out a potential double play ball.
Morales did not allow a hit, only two walks the rest of the way to improve to 5-2 in the circle this year.
Schneider was a thorn again in the Griffins' side, officially going 2-for-2 with three RBI's, two runs, and two walks.
Gwynedd Mercy is right back at it tomorrow as they head up to Clarks Summit for a CSAC Twinbill.
