GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Cedar Crest looked to play a CSAC Doubleheader on Friday, but the weather had other plans. The Griffins would take game one, 5-4, but rain caused the second game to be suspended after the second inning and will resume play on another date.
In that 5-4 win,
Lauren Waller was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Her two-run triple in the first helped the Griffins (8-3, 1-0 CSAC) get out to a 3-0 lead. Waller would also score in the frame on an RBI groundout from
Tori Sherwood. Sherwood, along with
Alyssa Morales also had two hits apiece.
The Falcons however answered in the second, scoring four runs on five hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Morales, the starter, was charged with all four runs.
Emma Clark entered in the circle and got out of a bases loaded spot, getting a grounder to third.
In the bottom half with runners on first and second, Jess Behr sent a shallow fly over the head of the second baseman for a hit to score
Becki Christoffers to tie it at 4-4.
Gwynedd would get the go-ahead run in the third and look for more. Two singles and a walk to start the inning loaded the bases with nobody out, but Cedar Crest was able to get two forceouts at home to look to end the threat. Christoffers hit a ball to short which was misplayed allowing her to reach and Clark to score.
Clark, who picked up the win in relief, kept the Falcons scoreless into the fifth, but a one-out walk in a one-run game,
Melissa Hess entered and allowed just one hit the rest of the way to earn the save.
Molly Schnaubelt was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI's for Cedar Crest (6-7, 0-3 CSAC).
The Griffins return to action on Monday when they continue CSAC play at Keystone for two starting at 1 p.m.
