ASTON, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 20-12 setback at Neumann University on Saturday morning in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
With seven draw controls,
Lauren Mitros etched her named in the program's record book as the all-time leader in career draws with 195. The senior also set a career-high with four assists and tied a personal best with seven groundballs.
GMercyU would cut the lead to one five times throughout the course of the game but were unable to keep pace with the host Knights in the closing moments of the second half.
Offensively,
Alyssa Tomsic led the Griffins with five goals. The trio of
Jill Kane,
Samantha Brown and
Carrie Kilgore each added a pair of goals.
Brown opened up the scoring for the Griffins (2-6, 1-1 CSAC), cutting the lead to 2-1 with just over twenty six minutes remaining in the first half. Tomsic would add a pair of goals under two minutes apart to cut the lead to 4-3. The Knights would continue to stretch their lead but Kilgore and Kane would added back to back goals to trail 6-5 at the 12:53 mark. Trailing 9-5 the Griffins wouldn't back down answering with goals from Brown and
Victoria Braeunle to trail 9-7 at the halftime break.
Kane and Kilgore would connect again just over a minute apart in the early portion of the second half to cut the lead to 10-9. Neumann would answer with a trifecta of goals but Tomsic would answer with just under twenty minutes remaining, cutting the lead to 13-10.
Tomsic would add another pair at the 6:21 and 5:22 mark but the Knights' 11 second-half goals were too much for the Griffins to overcome in the end.
Kaitlyn Conrad led Neumann (5-4, 2-0 CSAC) with a game-high nine goals.
The Griffins will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Centenary at 7 p.m.
