Seniors Help Set Offensive Records In CSAC Win

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Offensive records fell as Gwynedd Mercy celebrated Senior Day with a 26-15 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday.

The Griffins set program records with 36 points and 26 goals in the win. Their 53 shots and 24 draw controls were one shy of tying single-game marks as well.

Prior to the game, the team and coaching staff took time to honor their two seniors Lauren Mitros and Carrie Kilgore along with their families in a special ceremony.

Individually, Alyssa Tomsic totaled 10 points on seven goals and three assists, as she was a point shy of tying a single-game program record. Samantha Brown and Victoria Braeunle added five scores each while Kilgore netted four on the day. Jill Kane totaled two goals and three assists and Camryn Sheahan added a score for the Griffins (2-5, 1-0 CSAC).

For the Gators (2-4, 0-1 CSAC), Megan Morales provided the offense, scoring a game-high 10 goals.

Mitros added two goals and totaled 15 draw controls, which ties her own school record for most in a game. With the 15 draws, she moves into second place on the all-time career list with 188, just two away from the top spot.

Gwynedd came out on fire, scoring six times in the first six minutes of the game. The lead would swell to 11-1 with 17:30 in the first half. After Notre Dame got to 12-6, GMercyU put together a string of four-straight goals over the final 3:26 of the stanza to lead by 10 at the half.

The teams went on scoring stretches in the second half but Gwynedd still kept the lead. Morales tenth and final goal of day with 12:38 remaining got the Gators to 21-15, but the Griffins closed out the contest with five of their own to cement the 26-15 final score.

Goalie Nicole Wood made 12 saves in net. Marie Salas counted 18 saves for Notre Dame.

The Griffins will host Moravian here on Wednesday, weather pending, at 7 p.m.
