LAPLUME, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Basketball team traveled up the Northeast Extension on Saturday to face Keystone and returned home with a 75-54 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over the Giants. With the win the women secured a berth in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.
Chyanne Fine led GMercyU with a career-high 17 points and eight rebounds.
Julianna Hoisington also added 17 points going a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc as GMercyU used a huge 28-point second quarter to open up a sizable edge at the break.
Alison Szyszko opened up the scoring giving the Griffins an early lead. Trailing only once during the contest, a
Marissa Sandone three pointer midway through the quarter put Gwynedd up for good. The Griffins would stretch their lead to six twice in the opening frame  on a pair of Sandone free throws and a Hoisington three pointer. Gwynedd held a 16-11 advantage after one.
Fine highlighted the second quarter with 12 points, as the Griffins shot (63.2%) from the field and outscored the Giants, 28-11. Fine's fourth bucket of the quarter gave Gwynedd its first double-digit lead. A three ball from
Denise Sacco would stretch the lead to 29-16 with 6:25 remaining. The Griffins closed out the half on two separate runs; the first a 7-0 stretch capped by a
Sydney Thompson triple and the second, an 8-0 spurt capped by a Szyszko bucket and free throw for a 44-22 halftime lead.
Hoisington's nine points alone in the third quarter highlighted an 11-3 run to give Gwynedd their largest lead at 62-33 to close out the period.
Olivia Roseman would score back to back buckets to give GMercyU their largest lead at 69-39 with 7:48 remaining in the fourth.
Rebecca Fuehrer would close out the scoring as she made a pair from the line and knocked down the teams seventh three pointer for the 75-54 victory.
For the game the Griffins shot 28-of-58 (48.3%). The Griffin defense held Keystone to just 15-of-43 (34.9%) from the floor and cause 20 team turnovers leading to 26 points.
Roseman added five boards to go along with her six points. Sacco added a season-high nine while Szyszko chipped in eight to round out the team's leading scorers.
Gwynedd returns back to action on Wednesday when they host Clarks Summit in CSAC action at 6 p.m.
