GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy held off Marywood, 79-71, in a big Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup. The win keeps the Griffins (14-8, 11-2 CSAC) atop the CSAC North Division and alive for one of the two first-round playoff byes.
Julianna Hoisington shot her way to a season-high 19 points, hitting five of the team's 11 three-pointers.
Alison Szyszko added a career-high 13 points, along with six boards and three assists while
Chyanne Fine kicked in 12 points and a personal-best four blocks on the day as GMercyU held the Pacers to just eight second-quarter points in building a 22-point halftime advantage.
Hoisington had eight points and Syzsyko chipped in six in the first quarter alone helping the squad toa 28-21 lead after one.
In the second, Hoisington stayed hot, going a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown as part of 11 points in the frame and helping the Griffins outscore Marywood, 23-8.
Olivia Roseman's spinning layup in the third kept Gwynedd up, 63-43, with 3:48 in the quarter, but the Pacers were able to get an 8-2 run to close the gap to 65-51 heading into the fourth.
Marywood used a three from Catie Nealon to shrink the lead to single digits (71-64) with 4:28 in the game. After a bucket in the paint from Fine, both teams went scoreless for almost a three-minute stretch. Roseman then hit her only three of the day, the biggest of the game, with 1:41 on the clock to restore a 12-point cushion (76-64).
Natasha Hessling registered 23 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs, for Marywood (12-11, 10-4 CSAC). Gab Giordano added 16 with Aryah Aungst with 13 off the bench.
Roseman totaled eight points, six assists, and a team-high nine rebounds.
Bianca Adams ended with eight points and seven dimes as the team finished at a 42.2% shooting clip (27-of-64) for the game and notched their fifth game this season with 10 or more three-pointers.
Gwynedd Mercy begins the final week of the regular season on Monday when they host Clarks Summit in a rescheduled contest from Wednesday, this Monday at 6 p.m.
