GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Basketball team fell at home to Marywood on Saturday afternoon, 65-57, snapping the Griffins' nine-game home winning streak.

Both teams locked horns early in the contest that had an old-school rivalry feeling from the jump. The Griffins would hold an early 17-14 lead thanks to a Davis layup just over halfway through the first half. The Pacers would take their first lead at 18-17 with a Ringland bucket at the 6:56 mark. Gwynedd answered with a
Matt Sommers three pointer to jump-start a 13-4 run that would be capped by a Dunham layup in the paint with 2:23 remaining to put the Griffins ahead, 30-22. The Pacers would answer with a three point but neither team was able to score in the closing moments of the half that saw Gwynedd holding a 30-25 lead into intermission.
A Dunham breakway slam in the early moments of the second half put the Griffins up for their largest lead at ten (35-25). Gwynedd would maintain the lead until a Adam Boussatta tip-in would put the Pacers ahead 45-44 with 9:59 remaining. Marywood would stretch the lead to three but a
Rip Engel layup and
Matt Carter free throw would tie the contest at 47-47 with just over eight minutes remaining. A pair of free throws from Swartz would give the Pacers their first lead (49-47). Gwynedd was able stay within striking distance, cutting the lead to one five times in the closing moments, with the last at 58-57 on a Dunham jumper at the 3:23 mark.
However, Marywood would close the game out with a 7-0 run led by both Swartz and Ringland for the 65-57 victory.
