GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Field Hockey Team will host Wesley College on Saturday afternoon in the first-ever Atlantic East Conference Field Hockey Championship at 2 p.m.
The game will be a rematch of the Atlantic East Conference Game of the Week when the Griffins bested the Wolverines, 2-0, back on October 13th.
GMercyU punched their ticket to Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Neumann University on Wednesday evening in a semifinal matchup.Â
Erika Cimino and
Michaela Swenk each scored twice while
Kathryn Lehman added a goal and three assists.
Wesley scored an overtime victory over Marywood when Kasey Fry scored the the game's lone goal in the extra time to send the Wolverines to their first championship appearance since 2012 as members of the Capital Athletic Conference.
The Griffins, who have six PAC/CSAC conference titles (2017, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 1999), are led offensively by
Lauren Jani and
Shannon Carroll. Jani leads Gwynedd with a team-high seven goals and fifteen points. Carroll has also posted fifteen points on the season and leads the Griffins with seven assists. Goalie
Sarah Crane has held Atlantic East foes scoreless this season with an 0.54 goals against average and five shutouts.
The Wolverines captured conference championships in 2004, 2003, and 2001 as members of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference and are led by Kaila Hindt with a team-high thirteen goals and six assists for thirty-two points which leads all scorers in the Atlantic East.
