Griffins Squeezed By Marymount

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy saw Marymount escape with a 2-1 decision in an Atlantic East Conference matchup here on Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the two new league members.

The Griffins scored a goal with under 20 minutes to go in the contest and had chances for the equalizer, but were thwarted by the Saints.

Goalie Kace Peters made all four of his saves in the first half including two big stops on hard shots. After a key stop that saw him push a blast over the crossbar, the Saints made it 1-0 on the ensuing corner kick. Rodney Ngoh was able to get a header on the kick at the 22:43 mark for the one-goal lead. Marymount pressed on and struck again two minutes later on another corner kick. This time Ngoh headed the kick back to the near post where Sebastian Hendi made it 2-0.

Totaling four shots in the first, GMercyU put together five in the second along with five corners.

In the 72nd minute, Hugh Lynch tried to break in from the endline on a broken corner kick play. His short cross deflected off a defender right to Shawn Wood, who put in his first collegiate goal and more importantly make it a 2-1 contest.

The Griffins worked to get four more corner kicks, but were unable to get on the scoreboard.

Marymount keeper Ronald Clark was credited with two saves. The team totaled eight shots and six corners.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to action in Atlantic East play when they host Wesley here on Wednesday, October 10th at 4 p.m.
