GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Wesley's Chimaobi Ikwuagwu scored twice and added an assist to help the Wolverines defeat Gwynedd Mercy, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Kevin Bowers scored the lone goal for the Griffins, which cut a deficit down to one goal with just over 10 minutes to play. However, Ikwuagwu netted both his scores in the final 7:07 of play.
Goalie
Joe Duffy was called on the pitch after an injury early in the contest and responded with a season-high 10 saves including a big one 10 minutes into the game.
Prior to the goal from Bowers, the Griffins (0-12-1, 0-2-1 Atlantic East) nearly got on the board after a header off a free kick from 30 yards out was sent over the crossbar. Bowers netted his fourth on the season when he beat Wesley goalie Kyle Springsteen on a through ball to cut the score to 2-1.
Tyler Bascone was awarded the assist.
Springsteen totaled one save for Wesley (9-3-1, 1-1-1 Atlantic East). The Wolverines outshot Gwynedd, 22-5, and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
Gwynedd Mercy continues conference play on Saturday when they host Immaculata in a noon start.
