CHESTERTOWN, MD. -- Lauren Jani's first-half goal along with a five-save shutout from goalie Abi Kennedy helped lift the Gwynedd Mercy Field Hockey team to a 1-0 victory at Washington College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

With just 9:30 remaining in the first half on a corner, Jani redirected an insert pass from Michaela Swenk for her team-leading sixth goal on the season. For Swenk, it was her second assist.

Kennedy made three stops in the first half and two in the second including a big defensive save from Kathryn Lehman to thwart an attempt with less than five minutes in the contest. The defense also denied a Washington College on a late penalty corner to help cement the final score.

Morgan Domanico recorded five saves in goal in the first half for the Shorewomen. Kayla Zapcic made one stop in the second.

The Griffins play at Neumann on Wednesday in the final Atlantic East Conference game on the season. The winner will claim the top playoff seed and home-field advantage.
