RADNOR, PA. -- In a rematch of last year's Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship game, it was Cabrini giving Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball team a 67-39 setback on the road on Wednesday evening.
Olivia Roseman led the Griffins with 13 points while
Alison Szyszko pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds while adding six points.
A
Bianca Adams three pointer would put Gwynedd (12-8, 9-2 CSAC) on the scoreboard on their first possession. Despite trailing early, a Roseman driving layup and a pair of free throws from Szyszko tied the game at 7-7 midway through the first quarter. Cabrini would answer the Griffin spurt with an 8-0 run forcing a Gwynedd timeout. The Griffins would respond out of the time out with a pair of layups from
Chyanne Fine and free throws from Szyszko to cut the lead to two (15-13) after the first ten minutes of action.
Cabrini (18-2, 11-0 CSAC) would start the second stanza with a 14-0 run to take a 29-13 lead with 4:41 remaining in the half. Szyszko would connect on her fifth and sixth free throws of the game to cut the Cavalier run. The Griffins were held without a field goal during the quarter and found themselves trailing 34-15 heading into the halftime break.
Roseman would lead the Griffins with eight points in the third quarter. Triples from
Julianna Hoisington and Roseman would cut the Cabrini lead to 39-22 with just over five minutes remaining. Free throws from
Marisa Sullivan and
Denise Sacco would bookend a Roseman old fashioned three-point play keeping GMercyU within striking distance. A Cavalier three pointer in the closing moments of the third would spoil the Griffin momentum giving Cabrini a 50-28 lead.
A pair of layups from
Sydney Thompson and a bucket from
Tolu Omole would high the fourth quarter scoring for Gwynedd but Cabrini extended their lead throughout the fourth quarter to come away with the 67-39 victory.
The Griffins shot (24.0%) 12-of-50 from the floor making just four team three pointers. Cabrini made 12 three pointers on the night and finished 25-of-53 (47.2%) from the field.
The Cavaliers also held the glass out-rebounding Gwynedd, 38-32.
GMercyU will look to bounce back on Saturday traveling to Keystone College at 1 p.m.
