GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Goucher was able to edge Gwynedd Mercy, 1-0, in a non-conference clash Friday afternoon.

William Jenkins scored the lone goal of the contest in the 37th minute as he was the last to get a touch on free kick that bounced around in the box. His header was almost cleared out by a last-ditch Griffin defender, but the attempt came too late.

The Griffins (0-4) did have some very good looks in the first half but could not get on the board. Matt Bachmann's header at the 27:13 mark sailed just wide left and later a shot from a tough angle on the right side found the outside of the net. Despite outshooting the Gophers, 5-2, in the first 45 minutes, it was 1-0 Goucher at the half.

In the second, Gwynedd's best chance came on another header, as Brian Pease was the recipient of a good serve into the scoring area, but his attempt sailed up and over the crossbar.

Sophomore goalie Kace Peters made his second career start in net and finished the day with a personal-best six saves. Goucher keeper Daniel Hendry recorded one save.

The Gophers (2-2) flipped the script in the second, outshooting GM, 7-2, and 9-7 for the game.

Gwynedd Mercy is off until Tuesday when they visit DeSales in a 4 p.m. start.
