MEDIA, PA. -- A goal late in the contest drew Gwynedd Mercy within one, but the Griffins came up on the wrong end of a close 2-1 defeat at Penn State-Brandywine on Tuesday.
Matt Saba netted his first goal of the season at the 81:23 mark as he finished a corner kick from
Cole Smith with a header. GMercyU put together four good looks over the final 8:37 but could not find the equalizer. For the game, the team had 13 shots, with 12 coming in the second half alone.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal from Marcos Rojas which held until the half. Early in the second, Chris Riebman made it 2-0 as his long run and shot banked off the post and in past goalie
Ryan Oyola.
Oyola finished the game with seven saves, as did PSU-Brandywine keeper Brandon Wheldon.
Gwynedd Mercy (0-3) comes back home for a Friday afternoon tilt with Goucher starting at 4 p.m.
