GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a 10-0 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland Saturday afternoon.
Kaitlyn Lutz,
Shannon Carroll,
Kaila Brown, and
Alyssa Tomsic each had two goals as the Griffins (8-2, 1-0 CSAC) totaled season highs in shots (40) and corners (29).
Melissa Russo and

Prior to the game, the team and coaching staff, along with parents, alumni, and distinguished Gwynedd personnel took part in a dedication ceremony for former Griffin Kristy Kelleher. A bench under the American Flag at the outdoor complex was dedicated to her life with the nameplate reading, 'Kristy's Bench; Forever in our hearts #14'.
Russo opened the scoring with her 16th tally on the year just 5:37 into the game. Carroll netted her first of two on the day just a minute later for a 2-0 lead. Lutz and Brown added scores later in the stanza to stake the Griffins to a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Goalies
Sarah Crane and
Abi Kennedy kept the Gators (1-7, 0-1 CSAC) off the scoreboard for the team's second shutout on the season. Kennedy made one save in net in the second half.
The Griffins resume action on Wednesday night when they travel to Stockton for a non-conference matchup in a 7 p.m. start.
