GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A late goal was the difference as Gwynedd Mercy saw Centenary escape with a 2-1 decision Saturday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup.

On a day which felt like the first week of summer and not the fall, the Griffins fell behind early in the contest on a tough-luck score. In the fourth minute, Kara LaPolice looked to put a ball on net from 25 yards out, but the bounce from the high attempt got away from Gwynedd goalie Kailey Hopkins to give Centenary the 1-0 edge.

Hopkins would bounce back and make two stops in the half to keep it a one-goal game at the break.

With 7:48 elapsed into the second stanza, Gwynedd Mercy (3-4-1, 1-1-1 CSAC) got on the board. Rookie Victoria Braunle made a long run down the left sideline and was able to get a short centering pass to Meghan Petroski who one-touched it past Cyclone goalie Kaitlin Marold for the senior's seventh goal of the season.

Centenary netted the eventual game winner with just over 15 minutes in regulation as Amanda Benoit headed in a long cross from the right flag from teammate Chloe Christopher.

For the game, Hopkins would finish with four saves. Centenary (5-1, 3-0 CSAC) outshot GM, 7-2, and held a 3-2 corner kick edge.

Gwynedd Mercy will get right back at it on Tuesday when they welcome Keystone for a CSAC contest starting at 7 p.m.
