Field Hockey Hangs Tough With TCNJ In Close Defeat

EWING, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy was handed their first loss of the season as the Griffins fell in close 1-0 defeat to third-ranked College of New Jersey Tuesday evening.

Goalie Sarah Crane saw 16 shots from TCNJ, making a career-high eight saves to help keep the team in the contest.

The Lions (4-1) scored the only goal of the game on a penalty corner as time expired in the first half. Sidney Padilla's would net the eventual game-winner off an assist from Kayla Peterson.

GMercyU almost netted the equalizer with just over five minutes in regulation. On a penalty corner, Brianna O'Connell looked to even things up, but her shot was kept out of the back of the cage on a defensive save from Padilla. Crane and the Griffin Defense endured 17 penalty corners, including 10 in the second  half, but were able to keep it a one-goal contest.

Gwynedd Mercy (6-1) continues play against another ranked opponent from the NJAC on Saturday when they travel to Montclair State.
