GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was looking for its third win in a row Wednesday night, but Washington College interrupted those plans with a 1-0 overtime win.
The Shorewomen's Lindsay Russell was able to get a foot on a corner kick from teammate Arianna Sabatino over the arms of Gwynedd keeper
Kailey Hopkins with 8:17 elapsed into the first extra session.
The first half saw six shots total, five from Washington, but the lone attempt from the Griffins was a good one. Rookie
Victoria Braeunle was able to get around a defender in the right side of the box, but her tough-angle shot near the end line hit the outside of the net.
After a scoreless second half, the teams headed to overtime. The Shorewomen (4-1) had a good look in the box, but Sabatino's left foot shot just outside the six clanked off the crossbar.
Hopkins finished the evening with five saves. The tandem of Courtney Colbert and Annalie Buscarino recorded three stops.
Gwynedd Mercy (2-3) is back at it on Saturday when they open Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a date at Cabrini.
