Griffins Cap Regular Season With DH Split vs. Marywood

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team split a pair of games on Sunday with Marywood University to close out the regular season. The Pacers won the opener 10-9, while the Griffins took the nightcap 8-2. Marywood was the home team during both games while Gwynedd Mercy was the host site.

Game One
The Griffins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first on a pair of Pacer errors only to see Marywood cross a run in their first at bat. GMercyU would retake the lead in the second inning on RBI's from Tommy Nardini and Jason Mulvey for a 3-1 edge. The Pacers would answer with a run in the second and pair of runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

Gwynedd would bat around in the fifth inning scoring six runs on six hits. Loading the bases with no outs, the Griffins would capitalize with RBI's from Josh Lopez, Nardini and Iziah Trimble. GMercyU held a 9-4 lead heading into the home half of the fifth.

But Marywood would answer with four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Kevin McDonough two-run single with two outs to cut the GM lead to 9-8.

The Pacers would tie the game 9-9 in the sixth again with two outs on a Mitch Clemons RBI double. The Griffins would go down in order in the seventh. Again, Marywood would work their magic with two outs. Vince Rebar would triple followed by a Jake Schuster intentional walk setting the table for Matt Staback who drove in Rebar with his RBI walk-off single for the 10-9 win.

Ryan Keen and Nardini both went 3-for-4 from the plate while Nardini and Lopez knocked in two runs each and scored twice.

Game Two
Mike Di Ianni earned the win in game two for his fifth of the year. The junior pitched five and two thirds innings allowing an unearned run and striking out three. Dave Tatoian sparked the offense going 2-for-4 with three RBI's.

The Griffins took a 2-0 lead after the first inning on a pair of RBI singles from Tatoian and Keen. Tatoian would add his second RBI on a bases loaded walk in the second for a 3-1 GM advantage. His third RBI came in the fourth to plate Trimble for a 4-1 score.

Gwynedd would distance themselves in the fifth with a three-run frame.  A Nardini sac-fly would score Lopez who led off the inning with a walk. Trimble would follow with a triple to score Nick Mulvey who singled in his at bat. Justin Curtin would then drive home Trimble with a single for the 7-1 lead.

The Pacers would get a run back in the sixth but the Griffins would answer in the seventh with an RBI single from Nick Joyce to score Sachael Sciarretta.

Tatoian worked a 1-2-3 ninth for the 8-2 Griffin victory.

Nick Mulvey (2-for-4) and Trimble (2-for-3) each added a pair of hits.

The Griffins now turn their attention to the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs. They will travel to top-seed Keystone College on Wednesday. The remainder of the tournament will continue on Friday at PNC Field in Scranton, Pa.
