ASTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was held to just four hits total in their CSAC Doubleheader loss at Neumann on Saturday. In game one, the Knights' Haley Broomell tossed a no-hitter in a tight 1-0 contest. Game two saw Neumann post an 18-0 decision for the sweep.
Game one
Broomell struck out 11 Griffins and had a perfect game going until the seventh.
Becki Christoffers would reach first on a hit by pitch with one out. GM's
Alexis Gartner scattered nine hits, allowing one earned run with two walks and a strikeout. The Knights scored the lone run in the third on a bases loaded groundout.
Game two
Gwynedd's offense didn't get going until the third where hits from
Erin Hallahan and Christoffers put runners on. Neumann however, scored three runs in the first and six in the second to put GMercyU in a deficit. The game ended after the fifth due to the mercy rule.
Jackie Schneider was 4-for-4 and drove in a total of seven runs for Neumann (12-8, 8-0 CSAC).
Nikki Canfield and
Jenna Trythall also registered hits for the Griffins (8-12, 4-4 CSAC). Starter
Alyssa Morales took the loss, striking out four, but allowing eight runs on 11 hits.
Gwynedd Mercy will look to right the ship on Monday when they host Notre Dame of Maryland in a makeup DH from Friday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
