HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. --
Lauren Mitros totaled six goals and eight points, both career highs, to help lead Gwynedd Mercy to a 20-9 win at Centenary in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Game Wednesday afternoon.
A bevy of individual career highs were set as the Griffins earned their second CSAC win on Wednesday afternoon despite playing down a player.
Aubrey Cook totaled four goals, while
Haley Williams added three caused turnovers,
Christy Knipe with five, and goalie
Bria Gillard with five groundballs.
Offensively, the team scored a season-high 20 goals while forcing 14 caused turnovers.
Rookie
Samantha Brown started off the scoring less than 45 seconds into the game. That got the ball rolling with the Griffins scoring the next three goals. The Cyclones put the ball in the net twice to close the lead, but the Griffins were too hot to stop. Gwynedd continued to win the draw, cause turnovers, and successfully move the ball down the field to create scoring opportunities.
The first half ended with the Griffins up by nine (14-5).The teams traded two goals apiece over a 25-minute span of the second. GMercyU would tack on two more, both from Mitros, to cap the scoring on the day.
Three different Cyclones found the net throughout the game. Abby Voelkner was the first and last Cyclone to score as she led her team with five goals and five groundballs. With fantastic team defense, the Griffins were able to keep the Cyclones away from the net for the last six minutes.Â
Gillard had a standout game in net, totaling 11 saves. Centenary's Renee Hack recorded five.
The team will host Neumann on Saturday on Senior Day for the final regular-season contest with a new game time of 3 p.m.
