Softball Rallies In Game Two To Force DH Split At Marywood

SCRANTON, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Softball team split a pair of games Monday afternoon at Marywood University, falling in the opener, 8-5, but rallying for an 8-7 win in the nightcap.

Nikki Canfield went 4-for-4 in game two with a pair of RBIs and runs scored. Jessica Behr, Becki Christoffers and Lauren Waller each had a pair of hits in the nightcap as the Griffins rallied from a 7-2 deficit.

In game one Behr, Waller, Alyssa Morales and Jenna Trythall each had a pair of hits as well.

Behr would finish the day 4-for-6 with four RBIs and pair of runs scored.

In game two the Griffins would trail 7-2 heading into the top of the 5th inning. GMercyU would score three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take an 8-7 lead. A Waller homerun would get the rally started in the fifth. Trythall doubled home a run and after a Pacer error to score another run, cut the lead to 7-5. In the sixth, a Canfield two-run double would tie the game and she would come around score the eventual game winning run on another Pacer error.

Morales would get the win in game two working all seven innings. In the seventh, Marywood would have the tying run at third with two outs but a Christoffers diving stop in the hole to get the runner at first would seal the come from behind victory.

In game one, the Griffins would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after their first at-bats thanks to a Behr two-run homerun and Trythall RBI double. Marywood would respond with one run in the first and four in the second for a 5-3 lead. Trailing 8-3 in the seventh the Griffins would fight back with a two-out rally to load the bases. A Waller two-run single would cut the lead to 8-5 but the Pacers would get the tying run to ground out on the next play.

GMercyU returns back to action on Wednesday when they host Keystone in a rescheduled doubleheader at 3 p.m.
