Walk-Off Winner Highlights Split In South Carolina

NORTH MYTRLE BEACH, S.C. -- A walk-off triple highlighted Gwynedd Mercy's 9-8 win over Penn College, the first of two games on Thursday at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic. The second game saw La Roche score a 7-5 decision over the Griffins.

Jenna Trythall would knock in Nikki Canfield as GMercyU rallied from a 7-0 deficit to knock off the Wildcats. Trythall finished with three hits while Canfield drove in three and scored three times.

After being held scoreless through four innings, Gwynedd got on the board in the fifth, using just one hit and two errors. Penn College used a sac fly in the sixth to tack on their eighth run. Canfield's RBI double in the bottom half sparked a two-run frame.

Now trailing 8-5 going into their final at bat, Gwynedd would get their first two batters on base. Lauren Waller singled home a run before Canfield delivered a two-run base hit to knot things up at 8-8. Trythall swung at the first pitch and connected into right field for the walk-off win.

Alexis Gartner picked up the win in relief, entering the game in the fourth.

The day's second game saw the Griffins take a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth on an Erin Dowd RBI triple. However the Red Hawks answered with a three-spot in the bottom half.

Jessica Behr led off the seventh with a triple, hoping to regain some late-inning magic, but the magic ran out.

Behr finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored. Alyssa Morales suffered the loss on the mound.

The squad (3-3) finishes their stay in South Carolina tomorrow with two more games. At 11:30, they'll take on Anna Maria followed by a 1:30 start against Mount Aloysius.
