Milestone Reached In Final Games Of Spring Break Trip

Canfield nabs 100th career hit, becomes eighth player in program history to do so

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Nikki Canfield went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored including her 100th career hit in Friday's first game, a 10-4 win over Anna Maria in the final day of their Spring Break Trip. The Griffins would later suffer a 9-1 loss to Mount Aloysius in the second game.

The Griffins broke open a 5-4 game with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. In that three-run fifth, Erin Dowd delivered a big two-run triple. She would score on an attempted double steal to help GMercyU go up by four runs. In the sixth, Canfield's sac fly would plate Jessica Behr and later an RBI triple from Jenna Trythall helped add some insurance.

Trythall picked up the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs on five hits, with three walks and three strikeouts. At the plate, she was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI's. Lauren Waller was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's and a stolen base.

The second game of the day did not get off on the right foot, as the Mounties plated five runs in the first on five hits and an error and a run in the second.

Gwynedd got on the board in the fourth as a lead-off double from Waller preceded a two-bagger from Canfield.

Two GM errors in the fifth led to a run while Mount Aloysius tacked on three more in the seventh.

Waller and Trythall had two hits apiece. Alyssa Morales, suffered the loss, fanning three with just one walk, but yielding seven earned runs.

The Griffins (4-4) return home and return to action next week when they play at Moravian on Tuesday.
