AUBURNDALE, FL. – Freshman
Jared Gorman spun a four-hit complete-game shutout, striking out 10 in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Juniata on Sunday for the Griffins' first wins of the season as the team kicks off its Florida Trip.
Gwynedd totaled 13 hits in game one in a 13-1 victory and Gorman's gem highlighted an 8-0 win in game two.
In game one,
Ryan Keen had four hits and drove in four runs while
Justin Curtin had three hits and two RBI's.
Jason Mulvey had three RBI's on two hits while he and Curtin scored three times.
Starter
Nick DeRitis went four innings, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Curtin doubled in Mulvey and later scored on an RBI single from Keen for a 2-0 lead in the first. After the Eagles got a run across in the second, the Griffins plated two runs each in the third and fourth to increase their lead. A six-run fifth on just three hits and an error broke it open. It was more than enough for the bullpen as the duo of
Brian Wildrick and
Liam Sullivan allowed only one hit and totaled five K's in the final three innings.
Gorman would retire the side in order in the first three innings and did not allow a hit until the fourth.
Josh Lopez went 2-for-3 with a career-high four RBI's. He would strike in the first with a two-out, two-run double. He added his second two-run double in the fifth as part of a six-run frame.
Shaughn Wright added two hits, two runs, and walked twice.
The Griffins (2-2) return to action on Tuesday when they take on New Jersey City starting at 10:30 a.m.
