GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered their first Colonial States Athletic Conference defeat, falling 18-6 to Immaculata Wednesday night.
The Griffins battled back from a 4-0 deficit to get it to 5-3 midway through the first half. The Mighty Macs were just too tough, scoring the next six goals and 10 of the next 11, to close out the period on 10-1 scoring run. IU led 15-4 at the break.
Samantha Brown totaled two goals and an assist while
Lauren Mitros added a pair of scores.
Aubrey Cook and
Christy Knipe also tallied for GMercyU (1-6, 1-1 CSAC).
Hanna Verrecchia led all scorers with six goals to lead IU (5-3, 2-0 CSAC). Teammates Brittany Whaley chipped in four scores and Layne Kennedy totaled three.
Additionally, Mitros and Brown contributed four draws and a caused turnover each. Mitros scooped up three groundballs, while Knipe and Brown picked up two.
Goalie
Bria Gillard made four saves for GM and Immaculata's Emily Schumann recorded seven stops.
Next up for Gwynedd Mercy is the defending champion Cabrini, who they'll host right here on Saturday in a 5 p.m. start.
