GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Field Hockey team honored its five seniors then went out and scored a 7-1 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over Keystone College on Saturday.
Prior to the game the Griffins honored
Abigail Gabriel,
Melissa Russo,
Madison Reiss,
Brianna O'Connell and
Noelle Schillinger with a pregame ceremony. You can click on the special program insert above.
Russo collected her fourth hat-trick of the year with a four-goal performance on the day. Reiss, O'Connell and
Shannon Carroll also scored for the Griffins to earn their second straight CSAC victory in the process.

Russo scored the game's first goal at the 10:46 mark when Carroll collected a rebound and then played it back to Russo in the crease for the early 1-0 lead. Just under five minutes later, it became 2-0 as Reiss scored on a pass from Russo off of a corner. O'Connell would keep the momentum going with her goal 1:23 later for a three-goal lead when she deflected in a pass from
Alyssa Tomsic. Carroll would close out the first-half scoring when she drove home a loose ball in the 27th minute for a 4-0 lead at the break.

Russo would add her second and third goals in the 37th and 47th minutes when she scored a loose ball and then finished a pass from Carroll.
The Giants would score their lone goal in the 60th minute when Savanna Robinson knocked home a breakaway goal. However the Griffins and Russo would respond in the 62nd minute to spoil the Giants momentum when she scored off of a rebound in the crease.
For the game, the Griffins outshot Keystone, 21-4, and held a 15-1 corner advantage.
Sarah Crane recorded a save and
Abi Kennedy posted two stops for the Griffin goalies as each played one half. For the Giants, Megan Novak recorded five saves while Kali Kishter posted four and Emily Hawkins posted three.
The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday when they host Cabrini at 6 p.m. in a rematch of last season's conference championship.
