LANGHORNE, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Soccer team scored a 2-1 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory at Cairn on Wednesday afternoon getting a late goal from
Matt Bachmann who headed home the game winner in the 83rd minute to give the Griffins their first win in conference play and on the season.
Cole Smith also scored for the Griffins, who won for the second year in a row with an identical score.
Neither team would score in the first half but the Highlanders would hold a 4-2 advantage in shots 2-0 corner advantage.
Smith would put the Griffins (1-9-1, 1-2 CSAC) on the scoreboard in the 47th minute when his free kick from 35 yards out beat the keeper for the 1-0 advantage. It was the senior's second career tally. Cairn (7-5, 2-2 CSAC) would respond in the 64th minute with a Joey Weaver goal volleyed outside the eighteen inside the right post to tie the game 1-1.
Tim Dailey would find Bachmann, who netted his first on the year, to head home the game winner into the right corner of the goal for the 2-1 victory.
The Highlanders would finish with a 14-7 shot and 6-3 corner advantage.

Ryan Oyola recorded seven saves while Cairn keeper Colin Baker made one stop.
The Griffins will return back to action on Saturday as they travel to Clarks Summit for a 3 p.m. CSAC kick-off following the women's game at 1 p.m.
